Thesis layer reference architecture

A working implementation of the supervisory layer that examines the system coordinating the agents.

Question

Can a thesis-layer agent identify recurring orchestration failures across multiple engineering sessions?

Hypothesis

A supervisory pass over session transcripts will identify recurring failures earlier than human review. Compressing those transcripts, rather than changing the analysis, will make the patterns easier to recognize.

Result

The first pass analyzes session transcripts after each session. Next, we need to test whether it is useful during a session, while there is still time to correct drift.

Next experiment

Measure alignment latency with and without the thesis layer — the delay between drift occurring and the supervising layer noticing it.

Failure modes

  • 01 The supervisory pass reproduces the orchestrator's blind spots because it reads the same compressed summaries the orchestrator produced.
  • 02 Recurring failures are identified but phrased so generally that no change follows from them.
  • 03 Reading every transcript in full costs more attention than the failures it catches.

The tactical layer produces work. The orchestration layer coordinates it. Neither looks at whether the arrangement itself is improving.

This experiment builds the third layer and points it at the record of the first two.
